After exploring ICICI Bank’s digital endeavours now we bring you a coverage on HSBC Bank, the world’s local bank as they say.
WEBSITE
As would be expected from any bank website, HSBC India maintains a fairly content rich portal. The content is neatly presented, organised under various tabs, much like tabbed browsing feature of modern web explorers. However it still is not as lean and compact as UK website of HSBC which has a much more elegant and organised look and feel to it.
A user friendly graphical user interface (GUI) goes a long way in enhancing the web portals ability to engage its users online, an attribute particularly important for banks. HSBC India’s web portal though pretty decent can surely be upgraded to become as slick and user friendly as their UK counterpart.
We were unable to locate any official fan page of HSBC India, where customers can directly interact with the bank. However, as has been a general trend, we did find facebook pages and groups set up by employees to interact amongst themselves. Check the search results here. In fact we were a little amused not being able to locate such a page for their parent UK group too.
HSBC India doesn’t seem to possess a twitter handle either. However the UK group does maintain a couple of twitter handles, mainly to announce job opportunities @HSBC. At times they publish few job related news and trivia too. Check them out here and here.
Like ICICI Bank, HSBC is also not utilising true potential of twitter to engage with its customers for social banking needs.
HSBC UK SOCIAL BANKING INITIATIVES
While HSBC India barely manages a website to its credit, HSBC UK isn’t anti-social at all. Apart from a slick website and couple of twitter handles, HSBC UK maintains podcasts, a business TV channel, and a financial social network (FSN) portal.
HSBC UK actively uses podcasting channels. A couple of them which is directly integrated into their parent website are
- News room podcasts – They use this portal to broadcast latest news. An archive of past news podcasts is also maintained.
- News room press releases – You can hear or download latest press releases from HSBC UK as podcasts here.
HSBC social networking forum also releases podcasts for subscribing community members. Often they use these forums to upload webinars and videos. Check their business network podcasts here
HSBC UK is maintaining a dedicated video portal in HSBC Business TV. They have a YouTube URL too where they post these videos. They essentially provide interviews with business men and case studies from business experts
on various aspects of running a business. Often in course of interviews or case studies you’ll hear how businessmen are using various HSBC facilities to run their business. The site thus engages users by providing useful business insights from experts and gets a word of mouth promotion of its services from businessmen actually using them.
Check out a couple of their featured case studies:
1. Trading with India and investing in technology
2. Green business and recruiting for senior positions
The social networking portal of HSBC UK is really the forum which HSBC looks at to connect with the society (including non HSBC customers). Their Business Network portal does well in engaging users by providing them following platforms to connect.
What should HSBC India do to enhance its digital presence ? (May be for a start just copy HSBC UK, What say?)
