Post PC devices – Really ?

Recently I came across the term ‘Post PC devices’ – again. I cannot possibly count the number of times I’ve heard, read or seen (in videos) the term ‘Post PC Devices’. But, come to think of it, chunk of the times they have been the words of two men – the former Apple CEO and a ranting TC blogger who I’d rather not name. While the former has the credentials and a business motive to promote the term, the same cannot be said about the latter. The premise of their hypothesis behind the usage of the term is that, the world is past the PC-era or at best, will very soon be. Really ! Job’s contention is that, its no more a MAC vs PC world. PC segment is dead.  People hate to work on their PCs. They want to break free. He says, computing has come of age and now the focus is on which form factor in the (so-called) Post PC World is going to take charge. Computing has evolved with new form factors – true, but PCs are dead and people hate them – NOT true.

Legacy of Steve Jobs – people who matter – And it’s not Tim Cook

Steve Jobs is by far the greatest comeback story in the history of not only corporate America but also corporates worldwide. From being dumped from his own company and being publicly humiliated (in his own words) to taking Apple to the to the heights at which it is now. With Steve’s resignation, a lot of people have been skeptic as to how Apple would possibly handle Steve’s absence. People however forget that Steve owes a lot of his success to his ability to hire the best people and put them at the most important positions in Apple. It is these people (and a lot of other people who work under these people) that make Apple the company that it is. Here is a list of the four most important people at Apple other than Steve Jobs and Tim Cook:

NOKIA – Is the platform still burning ?

NOKIA- does the name strike a chord ? Of course it does ! Who can forget the brand that was once synonymous with cellphone itself. A handset maker that personified customer loyalty, robustness and love among other emotions. That perception is fast fading. What happened ? Well, iPhone happened and then Android happened. If that wasn’t all, the burning platform memo happened. NOKIA led the innovation in the handset market for over 15 years. But if they were slow with Smartphone innovations, they were totally taken off guard with iPhone’s 2007 launch. And then it’s been a race between iOS and Android thereafter. NOKIA’s Symbian platform failed to be competitive. Their ambitions with Meego made it just to the LABs.

Steve Jobs – The man we love – My Story

We all know by now that Steve Jobs has resigned and most of us have read one of the most stunning pieces of journalism by Robert Scoble here (another exceptional piece by Vic Gundotra). I would be very frank to tell you that I have hated as well as loved the the man, the artist, the greatest PR the world ever saw. There is not one person in the Silicon Valley who has ever been copied as much as he has been, there is not a single figure in the silicon valley who has had the aura as he has had. The man who disrupted every industry that he set his foot in, the man who changed the way people look at consumer electronics.

How Google can still become the greatest company ever?

Update 2: Google has killed its $182 million acquisition of Slide as it shifts its social networking efforts to Google+. Since acquisition, Slide has operated as an independent entity, releasing apps such as group-texting app Disco and Prizes.org. None of them have gained traction. Larry Page streamlining operations and betting the farm on Google+ said that there was no need for Slide.

Saving the Mobile Ecosystem

I’d been meaning to write about Android’s woes and mis-affairs for sometime now. But while my own affairs kept me at bay from writing, something nice happened last week. Google Inc. acquired Motorola Mobility. This was huge ! Google was acquiring Android’s second largest OEM. This garnered unprecedented coverage – both positive and that of skepticism. While there are possibly different angles to this deal, CEO Larry Page explains the official one on google blog.

Samsung Galaxy S II–A hands on review

Samsung finally brought an iPhone killer to the market, and what good timing to bring this gadget to birth. iPhone 4 was already getting old, and people had started dreaming about iPhone 5, but it was not going to be in sight for another couple of months. My HTC touch diamond was getting old, and one fine day it had its last resistive touchscreen breaths. By this time I had become a smartphone addict, and wanted something exciting in my life, maybe the best smartphone available on earth. Obviously that had to be iPhone 4. But wait, I suddenly discovered that Samsung had managed to create an iPhone of their own, which they named the Samsung Galaxy S II. Wow, what a phone, what amazing display, what touch experience and what a camera.
