Just purchased two OTA boxes, but I like the look of the new gen, just try and get us a good price for Canada they are very expensive over here in stores.

DRM/DVR/GRID/PLUGINS is why I can't get rid of Windows Media Center. Not to mention it still blows away every other piece of TV software. It's literally the only reason I haven't upgraded my HTPC to Windows 10. Also, @ 15:55 I'm assuming he meant 48TB not 48GB (unless he's talking single shows) =] – I still love my HDHR Prime and it's saved me so much money over the past 4 years it's ludicrous.

I would love to see the HdHomerun Extend with more tuners. Six would be nice. You always want more than you need. I like the Extend for the built in transcoding. I ended up going with the Tivo Roamio OTA for the added tuners. I'd rather have went with the Extend with Plex but the shortage of tuners forced me to go with the Tivo.

DRM moving to all spectrum customers. They need to get moving on drm across all platforms. This is useless to me if I am stuck with wmc.

I have cut the cord. About six months now. I use an Nvidea Shield TV 16gb and my daughter has a A95X A2 32Gb. How will HD Homerun benefit me? I only pay for Verizon Fios basic channels.

Buy the hardware. Skip the software. DRM, it is what it is. My take, SD has no control over DRM. They are 100% dependent on Microsoft, Google, and Apple. If they have no interest in supporting SD in their quest for DRM, then SD will never have DRM support.

For software look at EMBY, Plex, or NextPVR. IMO EMBY has the overall best hardware support and DVR support at this time.

What is SD future with ASTC 3.0. ASTC 3.0 does have DRM. The question is how aggressive will the local broadcasters be in using DRM.

The other future problem is that the cable companies are no longer required by the FCC to supply the M card. M card support is now optional for the cable companies.

Am I understanding this correctly, that with Windows 10 I and the HDHomerun I can record even DRM content from any cable channel?

Dam I just bought a Quatro because yall said we probably would not see the 6 Tuner/Card Box until 2019 shit……anyone want a 4 Tuner box for 175… less than it cost me lol

I was reading some review on Amazon and they said you can only stream HD over wired connection only and not WiFi. Is this correct?

What is everyone’s fascination with Windows 10 as the future for DRM recording? Everything that you need and want for live tv viewing, drm and recording already exists. What does Windows 10 offer for linear live tv that cannot already be done with Win7 WMC? Answer, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Lon, please help to educate these people. When you use a computer as a tv viewing device, it becomes an appliance. You don’t need any updates from Microsoft for it to continue working indefinitely. With the plethora of sub $200 mini PCs and Win7 Pro keys on eBay for under $10, in 2018 you can have everything you need for many years to come. Windows 7 WMC is the past, present and future of grid guide based DRM linear live tv viewing and recording, and with EPG123-Schedules Direct the guide data will work long after Microsoft’s proposed EOL.

Would be nice for the tuner and DVR to be able to install directly to a NAS like Synology instead of having to update it any time the NAS reboots or loses power. WD has it, why not other NAS boxes like Synology???

Do you know if anyone at Silicon works with the devs at Plex to coordinate functions and features? Plex has an issue where it doesn't know if a tuner is in use directly by a user using the HDHomeRun Client to watch one of the tuners so it can cause recording issues. Also, Plex only has access to one tuner type being that if you have 2 Prime it sees and had a guide to both but if you have a mixed environment of a Prime and a OTA tuner box, you have to choose one or the other to get the guide from and channels from. Having Plex have access to both and interpret both could be handy in cases when cable may go down it would revert to the OTA tuner for local channels you may have scheduled to record originally on the Prime but do so instead on the OTA box as the backup.

i currently have spectrum and an HD HR prime. works great except for a few drm bumps….however I may switch to streaming services like directTVNOW or sony vue. sony has cloud based dvr….direct TVNOW still promising one for a year now…is there any solution for dvr when using a streaming service? I understand Silicon dust does not have a solution…but anybody else?

  14. Glenn Selby

Always LOVE these interviews with Ted from SD, and I'm looking forward to your review of the new 6 tuner prime as well as any and ALL updates regarding DRM channel playback and record via Plex. Thanks Lon.

  15. William Cotham

So will the new 6 tuner prime support its use by WMC?? I currently have a Ceton 4 tuner CC device and would love to add/replace it with manufacturer supported hardware.

  16. Mike Nexus

I expect it is on Silicon Dust roadmap to come out with an ATSC 3.0 4k box. ATSC 3.0, aka OTA 3.0, will enable local tv stations to broadcast 4k tv over the air. Some are saying ATSC 3.0 TVs will be available this year.

HI LON I REALLY ENJOY YOUR CHANNEL. I DO HAVE A QUESTION,I NEVER CAN GET A CLEAR ANSWER ON THE HD HOMERUN PRIME AND DRM CHANNELS QUESTION (WHICH CHANNELS WORK WITH THE HD HOMERUN PRIME). I JUST CHATTED WITH COMCAST AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD ONLY RECEIVE BASIC CHANNELS NO HD OR PREMIUM CHANNELS IF I WENT THE HD PRIME ROUTE. IS THAT TRUE. IF SO WHY WOULD I BUY THE HD HOMERUN PRIME? I HOPE YOU CAN CLEAR THIS UP. THANKS
