Dell has announced bundling the Reliance wireless broadband connection and a select range of Netbooks/Notebooks together. The scheme will be marketed under the name ‘NetConnect broadband plus’.
The package comes with the Netbook, a USB card and Free Unlimited broadband for 6 months, subject to the fair usage policy. NetConnect Broadband plus claims to have downloading speeds of upto 3.1 Mbps ( read megabits per second. You can download stuff at 3.1/8 ~ 350 kBps max) and an uplink speed of upto 1.8 Mbps.
On completion of the offer period, the customers can choose to take up any of the existing Reliance NetConnect schemes. Reliance and Dell have entered into an agreement that Dell will make these bundled packages available to its customers throughout India.
For customers who use 1XCDMA service, Dell will make available its range of notebooks/netbooks bundled with 1XCDMA service option from Reliance.
This seems to be a major strategic alliance in the wake of a broadband revolution in India. Tata with its Docomo brand and pay per call scheme did give its competitors a run for their money, but this seems to be a big one from Reliance. Does Tata Photon+ from Tata have a reply? Are we going to see Sony Vaio or HP laptops partnering Tata Photon plus in the near future? However, I must say if there is no major price hike, the customer will be the winner hands down.
