The future of Smartphones and Tablets

My bet this time round is on Microsoft. Microsoft with its huge lead in motion sensing can bring in the next paradigm shift. Kinect is awesome. Let us all agree to this bit. It is the most thrilling gaming technology (although the more I see Kinect getting hacked, the more I feel it is much more than a gaming technology). My bet would be Motion sensing based OS from Microsoft for tablets (Tablets are more suited) and smartphones. Continue reading

Location, Deals and the big Google fail

Google and then Twitter were best positioned to leverage the location cake. Google with its Dodgeball acquisition in 2005 had the biggest head start amongst them all but as is true for most small companies which Google acquires these days, they screwed up. By 2007, Dennis Crowley left Google after a frustrating experience and founded Foursquare. Incredible, how Google is able to not figure out the way inspite of acquiring the most promising startups along with their founders. Dodgeball, Aardvark, Jaiku, Picnik are just some examples of Google screwing up with their acquisitions in a big way. Continue reading

My thoughts on the Tech Scene in current times – Part1- Search

Internet was always about organizing all the information in the world. Google was the first company which thought of a viable solution for the same. Over the last few months, there has been a lot of criticism about the Google Search Results losing their quality. People have gone all out against companies like DemandMedia for creating what we now call content farming. There have been people who have asked me to try out Blekko or DuckDuckGo. There has been the Google-Microsoft Episode where Matt Cutts calls Micrsoft a cheater. There has been a lot of buzz about real-time search as well as social search. Continue reading
